God’s suicide intervention transforms a life, JoAnna Oblander July 25

JoAnna Oblander will speak in-person July 25 at 7 pm in the Salt Lake County Commission Chambers. JoAnna is an author, health and family advocate, seasoned domestic engineer, and business owner. She has been happily married for over 45 years to her best friend, Greg. She is  the mother of six children, two of whom were adopted from Russia, and grandmother to 22 1/2 grandchildren. Her near-death experience occurred in 2002 – at a time in her life when she was suffering from  24/7 migraine headaches, severe depression, and she had become convinced that she was a horrible burden to her husband and family. That night, after she prayerfully announced to God that she planned to join Him the next day, an angel came and took her back to heaven to witness, once again, her pre-life meeting with God.  

Her  book, A Glimpse of Heaven, One Woman’s Life-Altering Visit with God, chronicles her near-death story,  God’s bringing her two adopted children into their family, and her 15 year  pilgrimage to healing.  As a result of her near-death experience, she has a deep desire to help others know God, find healing, understand the profound importance of life, and to help others fulfill their personal missions.

Howard Storm’s salvation from hell, via zoom, June 27

We are pleased to announce that our speaker for our June 27th meeting will be Howard Storm.  Howard Storm is an American Christian minister, writer, and painter. He is a former professor and chairman of the art department at Northern Kentucky University. In 2000, he authored My Descent Into Death, which chronicles his near-death experience. Howard Storm’s unique and wonderful story is a special treat. Howard died in France after developing a hole in his lower intestine. His story has a hellish beginning and ends in heaven. He is sent back with a good deal of knowledge about our relationship to God. His recovery leads him into the ministry, a huge change from his life as an atheist before his experience.

In heaven Howard asked God every question he could think of, and Howard is a deep thinker. After what seemed to him to be about a year, he was told he needed to return to earth and he came back with the promise that he could connect with heaven from time to time.

Howard’s recent health problems prevent him from traveling and speaking in person.

Scott Drummond’s near-death experience (NDE) occurred at age 28 following a skiing accident that led to a surgical complication. During the procedure, a nurse mistakenly administered anesthesia that stopped his heart for 20 minutes. Pronounced clinically dead, Drummond later recounted a profound journey beyond life.

Author and LDS Near-Death Facebook Site Creator, Sheldon Lawrence April 25, 2025

Sheldon Lawrence is a Professor of English at BYU Idaho. He has long had an interest in near-death experiences, and recently wrote a book on the subject, Heaven Will Find You, Heaven Will Find You is a story of how God’s unrelenting grace will pursue every lost soul until they are drawn into everlasting love. Sheldon started the “LDS Near-Death Experiences” Facebook Group, which has over 33 thousand members. Sheldon earned a PhD in English, specializing in the literature of spiritual transformation. He has written for various magazines and literary journals and has won multiple awards for creative non-fiction. He teaches college English at BYU Idaho and lives with his family in Idaho.

Dead for nearly an hour, Vincent Tolman in person March 28, 2025

We are pleased to announce that our presenter for March 28 is Vincent (Vinney) Tolman. At the age of 25, Vincent Tolman was pronounced dead and put in a body bag. Nearly an hour later, he miraculously came back to life. His book, The Light After Death, tells the story of Vincent’s experience–what he saw, what he was taught, and the message of hope and joy he brought back with him to Earth. Vincent was involved in developing health-related supplements but was not able to get a product from his normal source. He and his partner shallowed the concoction, and both lost consciousness in a Dairy Queen. Vincent was in a locked restroom when he died and was cold when they finally found him. His resuscitation was a miracle.

Gained a link to the other side, Ted Whiting in-person February 28, 2025

In 1981 Ted had back surgery after a motorcycle accident. The five-hour surgery had complications, during which Ted died on the operating table. The extraordinary part of Ted’s NDE is that he met his father, who had been murdered. Ted hardly knew his father, who he had only seen a few times when he was young before his father was killed. Ted was able to become close tohis father during his NDE. After their reunion and discussion on the other side of the veil, Ted’s father explained that it was not Ted’s time to die and he had to go back to earth. Ted’s father gave him some insights into his future and sent him back into his body on the operating table, which involved excruciating pain.

Later, in 1989, working as a mechanic, Ted was on top of a truck fixing an airhorn. He slipped and fell down to the concrete floor. Ted was knocked out. His sinuses were seriously damaged, resulting in recurring, serious sinus infections. During one bout with infections, as Ted was brought into St Mark’s Hospital on a stretcher, the pain was so severe that Ted became exhausted. With his will to live gone, he gave up fighting for his life and died. On the other side of the veil again, this time Ted saw his aunt, who told him the same thing his father had eight years before during his first NDE, that he wasn’t supposed to be there, he had to go back, it wasn’t his time yet, because he had more todo in life. Again, Ted went back and woke up in his physical body in the hospital, in pain.

As a result of his NDE, when Ted attends funerals he often connects with the other side. He has more to tell us in this presentation.

More than 20 trips to the other side. Heather Vander Meyden November 22, 2024

Heather’s life journey took a profound turn when she was hospitalized with complications from Severe Ulcerative Colitis, leading to a three-month stay in the ICU at the age of twenty and leaving her ravaged body weighing 79 pounds. Over three weeks, Heather experienced dozens of near-death experiences. After leaving her body, she watched her nurses resuscitate her when she became septic and developed ARDS following a third major emergency abdominal surgery. She spent time with deceased relatives on the Other Side and met her unborn children and God. She visited what she calls the healing waters and the building of knowledge and traveled through the dark tunnel with a guide. At the entrance of heaven, Heather was told it was not her time yet, and she had to go back. Heather returned to her body and began the remarkable journey of healing and resilience that included learning to walk and talk again. Her experience reshaped her perspective on life and erased her fear of death.

Childhood wounds healed to help others. Shawn White Friday October 25, 2024

Shawn had an extraordinarily near-death experience.  He was an abused child who suffered from sleep apnea and prayed daily to leave this painful world.  In his sleep one night he quit breathing and died.  He was escorted through the streets of heaven and into a large building where he experienced a life review and met several biblical characters, including Moses, Abraham and Jesus – his advocate, as well as other divine beings, all of whom showed a genuine concern for his welfare.  He was given the choice to stay in heaven or return.  What he was shown of his future led him to risk everything to return.  Shawn will share what keeps him here and what may help you through your troubled times as well.

Shawn has spoken to our group previously, but health issues have provided new journeys into the world beyond. You will learn more about what Jesus taught him regarding suicide, his reason for living and his motivation for his work today and more details of what awaits us.

Searching for life’s inner meaning, Wendy Thorne, September 27, 2024

Wendy Thorne will explain her journey September 27, 2024 in person at 7 pm.

On February 7, 1994, Wendy Thorne was rushed into surgery with a fatal condition of peritonitis and had a profound near-death experience during her operation that totally changed her life. When she recovered, she began her brand-new path. She did not get to raise her children and instead she was taught by Native Americans. It was both her awakening and a very dark night of the soul, but very much a part of her spiritual progression so she could fulfill her divine destiny as was told to her on the “other side.” Wendy came back with the veil still partly opened and learned how to develop the gifts she had been given with the help of a “Spirit Caller” from the Native American Pueblo Tribe. When Wendy did get to see her children again, she was faced with the biggest challenge of her life. Wendy obtained a Doctorate Degree in Metaphysics and a degree in Parapsychology, because she wanted to know everything possible about the experience she had witnessed from the “other side.”

Wendy has worked in Hospice and as a Doula, helping many people cross over and has assisted families understand what actually takes place at the time of death. Wendy is currently the Coordinator for the State of Utah for Connecting Consciousness, a worldwide humanitarian organization.
